Dr. Erik Berntorp is an experienced hematologist who has authored around 400 peer reviewed articles and Editor for several major textbooks. He has served on the councils of the World Federation of Hemophilia and European Hematology Association. Dr. Berntorp’s key research interests include: Prophylactic treatment of hemophilia and of von Willebrand disease: Genetic aspects on inhibitor development; Treatment of inhibitors in hemophilia including by-pass therapy and Immune Tolerance Induction. He is at present emeritus professor at Lund university in Sweden.

Dr. Sidonio graduated from UAB medical school, completed his pediatric residency at the University of Louisville and completed his fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh where he also obtained his Masters in Clinical Investigation. Dr. Sidonio has been the Associate Director of Hemostasis and Thrombosis at Emory University since 2014. He is also the co-creator of the Atlanta Protocol which combines Emicizumab and FVIII for ITI. He is the co-PI of the Hemophilia of Georgia VWD project focused on characterization of children with low VWF. He is also the lead PI for the Emicizumab PUP and Nuwiq ITI trial, MOTIVATE study, ATHN 9 study (severe VWD) and FEIBA SAFE study.

Dr Abshire is a Senior Investigator, Emeritus at the Versiti Blood Research Institute (VBRI) as well as Professor of Pediatrics, Medicine and the CTSI of SE WI, Emeritus at the Medical College of WI (MCW). His most recent executive leadership positions at Versiti included Executive VP, Medical Sciences Institute (MSI) and Chief Medical Officer. During his eleven leadership years at Versiti, he served as Associate Director, Clinical Research within the Institute as well as the Medical Director of the Clinical Trials and Research Office (CTRO). For the last 30 years, he has been fortunate to oversee the career development of over 35 physicians with half maintaining a focused interest in nonmalignant hematology and transfusion medicine.

Prior to Versiti, Dr Abshire spent 14 years at Emory University and Childrens Healthcare of Atlanta, where he held an endowed chair and oversaw the adult and pediatric hemostasis and thrombosis programs along with running the pediatric hematology/oncology fellowship training program. Prior to Emory University, he enjoyed a 20 year career in academic military medicine. He also has demonstrated strong leadership skills in several national hemostasis/thrombosis research organizations, including being past President of the Hemostasis and Thrombosis Research Society (HTRS) and past Chair, American Thrombosis and Hemostasis Network, (ATHN), He has published over 120 peer-reviewed publications. Current research interests are focused on new drug development and clinical trials in bleeding and clotting disorders. Ongoing and past research interests include clinical trials in leukemia, thrombosis, hemophilia, VWD and mild bleeding disorders. His most recent funded efforts have been focused on VWD: the VWD International Prophylaxis (VIP) Study (Abshire and Berntorp, Multiple-PI; MPI) and NIH R⁰¹, Comparative Effectiveness in the Diagnosis of VWD, Abshire and Montgomery, MPIs with recent continuation as Key Personnel in the 3rd renewal of the PPG, the Zimmerman Program on the Biology of VWD (2019-2024).

David Lillicrap is a Professor in the Department of Pathology and Molecular Medicine at Queen’s University, Kingston, Canada. He is the recipient of a Senior Canada Research Chair in Molecular Hemostasis. Dr. Lillicrap is a past member of the World Federation of Hemophilia’s (WFH) Medical Advisory Board and Chair of the WFH’s Research Committee. He is a past Chairman of the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis’ (ISTH) Scientific and Standardization Committee and prior member of the Council of ISTH. He has previously served as an Associate Editor for Blood, and recently completed a 5-year appointment as Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis.
